To begin the quilting process, a quilt size must be selected. Choose what size the quilt will be and look at the pricing sheet to help in determining size options. You can choose a King, Queen, Twin, or Couch Throw Size. I make artistic fabric creations so the size is not exact but will be close to standard sizes. Example: A King Sized Quilt will be between 92" - 100" in width and 90" to 104" in width.

Once a quilt size is selected, the backing must be selected. Backing is the bottom part of the quilt. I can make a reversible quilt with a top and bottom that can be flipped where you can use both sides. You can choose a standard plain material (solid or patterned one color) for the back so there is a distinguishable front and back to the quilt.

To continue the quilting process, we work together to develop what might be added into the quilt and I sketch out some designs (see sketches below).

Once I provide sketches you can provide feedback...remember, this is your quilt so you tell me what you like or do not like (please be honest because it's easier for both of us).

PLEASE NOTE: the quilt will come out a bit differently than the sketch because material is different than a pen and pencil or markers…most of the time it comes out better than expected 😊…we may have several sketches or just one…it depends on what the topic might be…and most importantly this is an opportunity to have fun in the creative process!

The next step is to pick out the core materials for the project. This includes picking colors and fabrics. Do you have fabrics, shirts, garments, or other materials you want to incorporate into the piece? Prefer to buy your own materials and send them? I can work with you to pick colors and fabrics or you can choose to send me fabrics and materials you prefer. Or you can choose not to be involved in Step 3 at all as mentioned earlier...You can provide ideas and wait to see what is created to be surprised at the end...or you can choose to have me send you photos of the project all along the way, it's your choice!

QUILT THEME EXAMPLE OPTIONS:
1. Your Life Story Quilt…every square says something unique about you
2. Animal Quilt (or some other thing you really like and want on the quilt)
3. Just colors with no story or objects…abstract or square patterns
4. You come up with something you want…a new idea or theme

The next step is to have me build the quilt using fabrics. I will develop the top, the bottom, and build a quilt sandwich. I will free-motion stitch the sandwich together (unless another pattern is requested) and complete the binding around the quilt. I will adhere to your request for involvement...if you choose to be involved in all the steps and choices I will send correspondence by text message with pictures providing options. For example, the last step of developing the binding will require fabric and color choices that I can make or you can make. The final product will come with a label that has the person's name and a date as well as my name as the artist that created the quilt.
